YouTube India Launches Today
We've been hearing rumors in the past few weeks about YouTube India’s imminent launch. YouTube India www.in.youtube.com is now live, offering the standard YouTube video selection through an Indian filter reflecting the favorites, voting and preferences of an Indian audience. According to IndiaTimes, partners for the launch are Rajshri Group, the Zoom channel from the Bennet Coleman & Co, and UTV.
YouTube is currently the 5th most viewed site in India surprising because India's high speed bandwidth is still a enormous bottleneck for true video dissemination. We've slowed our development of videos due to the lack of users with high speed access in India. When only 1 out of 50 Indians can actually view video online, there are going to be limitations for online video content producers. Hopefully some enterprising group is addressing this currently because the government seems not to care.
