L&T BAGS Rs.15 bn ORDER FROM APPDCL

Larsen & Tourbo (L&T) has got a order for Rs15.57bn for the Steam Turbine Generator package of 2*800 MW Damadoran Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station at Krishnapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This project is being developed by Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Limited (APPDCL).
In India, this is the first order for supercritical 800MW Steam Turbine Generator Island. It was tendered through the International competitive bidding route. L&T has become a leading player in the area of Thermal Power, employing supercritical technology with this order.
L&T got the Steam Turbine Generator package includes engineering, procurement, manufacture, supply erection, commissioning and performance guarantee tests of two sets of 800MW supercritical Steam Turbine Generators and Auxiliaries.
In this project, the steam turbine generators would be supplied by L&T-MHI Turbine Generators Private Limited, a joint venture company set up by L&T and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Japan, for manufacturing supercritical steam turbines and generators in India.
This Joint Venture has already formalized in November 2007 and has secured its first order within six months. The joint venture of L&T-MHI is in the process of setting up a manufacturing facility in Hazira, Gujarat.
L&T had taken a strategic decision to enter into the coal based thermal power arena as it constitutes the single largest segment of the power market. L&T has taken a significant step for fulfilling its aspiration to contribute to the nation's increasing demand of power.
L&T has also set up another JV with MHI, Japan, for the manufacture of Supercritical Boilers. Both the Joint Ventures would be the pillars for L&T’s power business built in the years ahead. Further these joint ventures would complement L&T's existing expertise in design and engineering of power plants, manufacture of feed cycle equipment as well as construction of power plants.
