Jagan Reddy aide held for attacking Reliance property
TheAndhra Pradesh Police on Monday arrested the former president of the NationalStudents’ Union of India (NSUI) for allegedly masterminding the January 7attacks on the property of Reliance Industries.
VamsichandReddy, a staunch follower of KadapaMP Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, wasarrested and produced in the Nampally criminal court on Monday. He was remandedin judicial custody for two weeks.
TheAndhra Pradesh police are understood to have gained conclusive evidence thatVamsichand, former Andhra Pradeshunit president of the Congress’s NSUI,had masterminded the attacks on the property owned by Anil Dhirubai AmbaniGroup in Hyderabadlast Thursday night.
Initially, the police had registered cases against Vamsichandunder bailable Sections 143 ( being member of an unlawful assembly), 147 ( rioting),427 ( mischief and thereby causing damage to an amount more than Rs 50) and 506( criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC).
Butlater, they filed the case underseveral non- bailable sections including 120- B (criminal conspiracy) and 7 (1)of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
Sourcessaid the police had gained” credible evidence” that hundreds of messages hadbeen sent from Vamsichand’s mobile phone to activists of the NSUI and the JaganYuva Sena on January 7.
Inhis messages, Vamsichand had allegedthat the Ambanis had a hand in the September 2 helicopter crash which hadkilled former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy along with four others.
Hegave a call to the activists to attack property owned by the Ambanis to”avenge” YSR’s death.
Interestingly, the police have found that the text messages weresent a couple of hours before a report on the alleged conspiracy by the Ambanisin YSR’s chopper crash was aired by a Telugu news channel.
Thereport was based on a” fabricated and malicious” story posted on a Russianwebsite www.exiledonline.com.
Thevandalism on Reliance property started soon after the channel aired the report.
StateCongress president D. Srinivas issued a show- cause notice to Vamsichand forallegedly sending the provocative SMSes.
GandhiBhavan sources said Vamsichand is a close associate of Jaganmohan Reddy. ” Hewas in the forefront during the campaign to make Jaganmohan the chief ministerafter YSR’s death. He was always seen in the company of the Kadapa MP, whenever the latter came to Hyderabad,”a source said.
Thepolice also arrested Jagan Yuva Sena president Satya Reddy and his associateAndhra Srinu for attacking the Heritage outlet at Jubilee Hills and some othercommercial establishments on January 7.
