INDIA & SRI LANKA WILL SIGN CEPA AT SAARC SUMMIT

  • * India and Sri Lanka are going to sign the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) at the time SAARC summit on August 1, 2008.

  • * Twelve rounds of technical-level negotiations have been held on CEPA starting February 2005

  • * Mr Gopal K. Pillai, Secretary of Ministry of Commerce and industry said that Free Trade Agreement (signed in 1999) is a win-win situation to both countries. We are really looking at increasing Sri Lanka’s trade volume to 1.5 billion dollars by 2012

  • * The CEPA deal will make it easier for Sri Lankan companies to invest in India in areas like tourism, telecommunications and information technology, they told a seminar on the trade deal.

Indian finance ministry working on increasing the duty drawback rates

It has come into the notice of The India Street that the contours of a support package for exporters are getting clearer with the Indian finance ministry working on increasing the duty drawback rates to assist textiles exporters cover a part of the damage because of the appreciation of the rupee.
