With a market share of Seventy
Percent, one might think that mobile handset and accessory maker Nokia might take it easy but the Finnish
company has absolutely no intention of losing it’s staggering market share in
the world’s second largest mobile and telecom market.Nokia has been pretty
casual in it’s Indian approach for the past two years and that has led them to
losing almost five percent of their market share. The rate at which India’s
mobile market has grown during this time has been stagerring.Nokia have not
failed in terms of earnings, they have done so in adding newer customers.
At 6.22 am on a cloudy Wednesday morning,
a small island on the eastern coast of India in the state of Andhra Pradesh was
buzzing with fervor, excitement and satisfaction. Most people, many Indian have
not even heard of this place called Sriharikota
but it is without doubt the heart of India’s space program. On Wednesday India’s
first unmanned moon mission blasted off from the launch pad at Sriharikota
thereby signaling to the world that India is only among six countries
capable of launching a moon mission and capable of developing its space program
with such formidable force. But, at the end of the day scientific and political
victories aside, this is a big deal from the commercial side as well.

It is only a matter of time
before the Initial Public Offering of the country’s largest communications

Plans for the release of the BSNL IPO have been there right from the beginning
but was placed on the back burner because India’s staunch Left parties opposed
the divestment of the government’s flagship communications provider.
Things have however changed since
the Left are no longer in a position to oppose the government.
The third generation of mobile internet services known as 3G
will hit India later this year. What is good to see is the sense shown by the Telecom ministry to hurry up with the setting up of the 3G infrastructure .The
last time a major revolution in the information sphere arose with the advent of
internet on mobile the government waited a long while to even consider the
prospect of allowing the net on mobiles.
Things have changed a lot since then. For one India has
become a major player on the world’s IT services sector. With the outsourcing
industry expected to grow by at least 200 billion dollars in the next few years
in India ;most of the work being done here cannot rely for long on broadband
services while the rest of the World operates on 3G.
It’s been staring you in the face everyday and yet you don’t know what it does. One of the most overlooked facets of the Indian telecom market is the amount of money cell phone agencies, operators and companies make of the short messaging service (SMS).Even more astounding is the way TV channels and telecom operators work together to generate amazing amounts of revenue through the SMS…..alone.
Telecom South Africa?Anil Ambani goes to South Africa for a vacation and comes back with a deal to enter the country’s burgeoning telecom market! Okay, not quite. The chairman of the ADA Group is still in talks with South Africa's leading telecom player MTN Group and no deal has yet been inked. Earlier this week, Reliance Communications said it had begun “exclusive negotiations” with MTN for a “potential combination of their businesses.” “Exclusive negotiations” means that during this period (agreed upon
